Joshua Mosley

Joshua is a film, TV and games composer whose projects include the Emmy-nominated Netflix series My Dad the Bounty Hunter, Bernie the Dolphin for Lionsgate, Fortnite FNCS, and The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners. He has also worked on X-Men: Apocalypse and Encanto. Joshua is also a tutor on our online Masters degrees in film, TV and game scoring.

Arhynn Descy

Arhynn is an award-winning film composer and voting member of the Academy Awards. Her credits include the sci-fi thriller Crypto Shadows for which she won Best Music, and the thriller Blank, for which she was nominated for Best Music. Arhynn is also a tutor on our online Masters degrees in film and TV scoring.

EMILY HAWKINS

Emily is an established composer for drama and documentary films, podcasts, library music and more, including a placement on UK Masterchef TV show. She has been nominated for the European Talent Award at Soundtrack Cologne and is also a tutor on our popular Orchestral Composition Bootcamp.

MASTERCLASSES WITH GUY MICHELMORE

Bootcamp provides a wealth of on-demand, in-depth masterclasses from Guy Michelmore, which you can revisit forever.

Guy is an Emmy-nominated film, games and television composer whose clients include Marvel, Disney, Dreamworks, Lionsgate and dozens of major TV networks around the world. He is best known for his work with Marvel on eight animated feature films including Ultimate Avengers and Thor, as well as hundreds of episodes of television. His unique and accessible style has made him a popular YouTuber with over 400,000 subscribers.

The Schedule

All live sessions are held at 3pm GMT / 10am EST / 7am PST. Sessions typically last between 90 and 120 minutes. Don't worry if you can't attend some sessions live. Everything is recorded and available to watch on-demand.

After meeting your tutors and fellow students, we’ll cover some of the foundations of film scoring such as the purpose of film music, how spotting works, and working with themes.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are thinking about taking the course, there are some requirements you may want to consider. Here are the most frequently asked student questions to help you to assess whether the course is right for you.

We expect you to already be able to write music in your DAW, even if you know your skills need work. Skills like how to input MIDI, load software instruments, and use effects and automation will not be covered during this course.

You don’t need to be an experienced composer, and we understand there may be gaps in your knowledge. As long as you don’t feel like a beginner, this course will support your progress. You do not need to have written music for films before – we assume you know how to write music, but this may be your first time ever writing to picture, so we’ve got you covered there.

The course is structured as an eight week program, however, you have opportunities to submit your work outside this eight week structure if needed.

If you do, on average, a small amount of work each day (under an hour), attend the live sessions, and make sure to check out the course videos and materials, you should have plenty of time to complete it in the eight weeks. But if you fall behind, it's not a problem.

There's a few types of software you'll need to take part, but as a musician these should be things you have already.

You will need:
- A Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
- A set of orchestral sample libraries
- Any additional plugins, or software / acoustic instruments that contributes to your style.

For your DAW, we can provide extension support for Logic Pro X and Cubase. Other DAWs should be absolutely fine, but we cannot guarantee we will be able to offer you technical support if you have issues. If you have doubts about your setup, just drop us an email.

You will need a computer capable of running a DAW with orchestral sample libraries. Orchestral samples can be quite taxing on your machine - especially RAM. As a general rule, we would advise a minimum of 16gb of RAM.

There are techniques you can use to maximise the efficiency of your computer's resources, and we'll discuss that further on the course.

We also advise a decent set of monitoring headphones. Speakers are fine, but in a room that doesn't have acoustic treatment your ability to judge your mixes objectively will be more difficult.

A MIDI keyboard is also useful when inputting notes into your DAW, but plenty of composers make do with just a keyboard and mouse so if that's your style don't let us dissuade you from using that method!
